Judge William Adams has been filmed on camera mercilessly whipping his 16-year-old daughter - who has ataxic cerebral palsy - with a belt, which can only be assumed to be one of many beatings. She's hit countless times and at one point he threatens to whip her in the face if she doesn't roll over.

When you think of a judge, you probably think of a person who embodies the legal system, regardless of which country you are from. Whether the laws they uphold are just, fair or even make sense will vary from place to place. In the Western World though, we like to think that our elected judiciary officials are exceeded in their virtue only by the legal system that they seek to uphold.

As much as America likes to pride itself on being the pioneers of freedom and "the greatest country God ever put on earth" (to quote many pundits/preachers), even they are not immune to immorality and corruption.

Unfortunately like any profession, there will always be those who fall through the cracks of the process. This is especially concerning when those we trust to decide penalties for criminal and civil cases are incapable of determining even remotely-appropriate penalties at home.

While the footage was taken from 2004, it seems it has only been revealed publicly 5 days ago on a YouTube account. It appears to have gone somewhat viral in the last few hours, so hopefully you'll be able to find a news article about this by the end of the day (apart from this). At the time of writing, there are no results for "Judge William Adams" aside from the video and two forum posts on a popular internet site.

The video description is as follows

"Aransas County Court-At-Law Judge William Adams took a belt to his own teenage daughter as punishment for using the internet to acquire music and games that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time. She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views. The judge's wife was emotionally abused herself and was severely manipulated into assisting the beating and should not be blamed for any content in this video. The judge's wife has since left the marriage due to the abuse, which continues to this day, and has sincerely apologized and repented for her part and for allowing such a thing, long before this video was even revealed to exist. Judge William Adams is not fit to be anywhere near the law system if he can't even exercise fit judgement as a parent himself. Do not allow this man to ever be re-elected again. His "judgement" is a giant farce. Signed, Hillary Adams, his daughter."

Though as an interesting side note, since what she did would technically be punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 (depending on location), if you had to choose between getting this sort of beating and paying $250,000 - which would you choose? I'm obviously not saying this beating was in any way justified, but perhaps piracy laws also need to be examined for their ridiculousness if a teenage girl downloading films or games unavailable for legal purchase could be given a crippling debt beyond what many families even own.

While it's difficult to verify if this is all true and correct, there are a few things to note. Firstly, the video itself doesn't look faked whatsoever, and I wouldn't imagine the same girl who posts videos about classical piano would architect a fake video of a beating and blame it on her father who is a judge. Secondly, her YouTube account is very old (August 2006), and she has links to her other accounts on things like deviantART, LiveJournal, Google Pages, and her email address (while I obviously won't link to them here, they are still easily available linked to her YouTube account).

If she did fake this, she has a lot to lose by doing it with accounts so closely linked to her identity and her very long-standing internet life. Also, the girl in the video looks similar enough to the girl in the other uploads for it to be a very fair assumption that the video is of her.

The only way that this video could be fake (in my opinion) is if it is either not her dad, and/or her father is not Judge William Adams. I couldn't find any websites referencing a Judge William Adams outside of the video itself (though he is a relatively small-time judge judging from the description so this isn't unexpected). Again, if she were lying about this (for whatever reason) - it would make no sense that she wouldn't make a throw-away account to post the video.

The only thing we are absolutely certain of here, is that a teenage girl was beaten often enough to know to catch it on camera, and the beating was so intense that YouTube has restricted access to those over the age of 18.

UPDATE: When searching for a picture of Judge William Adams, I found an intriguing report (by anonymous) about him. It's dated from almost a year ago and accuses him of being "corrupt, child abuser, liar, conspirator". It says:

I was visiting County Court at Law in Aransas County on October 11, 2010, and I was horrified at what I saw. The case involved custody of a 6 year old child. [...] The mother presented medical records from Texas Mental Health and Retardation Services (MHMR) showing that the child care provider used by the father was homicidal, suicidal, psychotic and heavily drugged among other things. Judge William Adams presiding judge of the Court held that this evidence was "irrelevant." I heard the lawyer for the mother say "You better hope this child is not hurt." Incredibly, Judge William Adams just shrugged his shoulders. [...] The father, his lawyer, and the child care provider had all lied earlier claiming the child care provider was perfectly OK. Judge William Adams couldn't care less about this lie designed to endanger the child. The hearing was obviously rigged ... Judge William Adams didn't even conceal the corruption. [...] Judge William Adams clearly had no interest in the truth and in fact was covering up the truth.
