As a result of financial instability in the United States, and the death of a technological magician, no-one has seemed to notice that Israel and Syria are currently in a dangerous standoff. A standoff that, if triggered, could cause innumerable casualties in both countries. Israeli officials have warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that if Tel Aviv is targetted by Syria, that Israel would retaliate by bombing the Gaza Strip and the entire nation of Lebanon.

An Iranian news site has reported that the threat had been sent to Syria through European intelligence circles. The sources claim that the message stated: 'seeing as Tel Aviv is Israel's economic and financial hub, a retaliation for an attack against it, by Hizbullah, Hamas, or Syria, will not be limited to Syria, but all of Lebanon and Gaza.' Military circles in Israel have been reported in regards to the matter, as saying that the message: 'is clear in that Damascus' fate, should it be targeted, will not be different than Lebanon's.'

The message came in response to Assad's threat of 'set[ting] fire to the Middle East if foreign forces launch a military strike on [his] country.' In the same threat, Assad stated that in the events of foreign forces intervention, he would call upon the Lebanon-based militant group Hizbullah to attack Israel. The threat was made to Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during Assad's trip to Damascus. 'If a crazy measure is taken against Damascus, I will need not more than six hours to transfer hundreds of rockets and missiles to the Golan Heights to fire them at Tel Aviv,' the Syrian president said.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry is denying the claims of President Bashar Assad's threats, adding that 'no messages were conveyed from or to anyone during the meeting.' The Iranian news agency did not indicate the date of the meeting between the two officials.
